Breaking Chains of Transmission with PCR / LFT COVID-19 Screening & Testing
COVID-19 continues to significantly change our daily lives, and many businesses and employees are adapting to new working methods.
Wright Medics offers information and advice to help you safeguard the health and wellbeing of your employees as we adjust to new ways of working in a rapidly changing situation.
Broadening testing to identify those showing no symptoms means finding positive cases quicker and breaking chains of transmission. Testing can provide confidence to workers and customers in the workplace, helping to protect and enable business continuity.
Around 1 in 3 people infected with COVID-19 have no symptoms, so they could be spreading the disease without knowing it.
Coronavirus (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without special treatment.
Older people and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop a serious illness. You can prevent and slow down transmission by being well-informed about the COVID-19 virus, the disease it causes and how it spreads.
Protect yourself and others from infection by frequently washing your hands or using an alcohol-based rub and not touching your face.
Tailored COVID-19 Screening for Employers & Employees
Wright Medics can assist in preparing, managing and implementing COVID screening and testing procedures for employers and workforce employees throughout the UK.
We can tailor our Covid screening services to meet client/site requirements. Our approach depends on employee status and the working environment.
Our COVID-19 screening for employers and employees typically includes the testing and processing of:
- PCR Testing
- LFT / Lateral Flow Testing.
PCR Tests: Nasal and Throat Swabs
We use PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) tests to screen for viral RNA, which is detectable in the body before antibodies form or symptoms of the disease present themselves. This means that PCR tests can tell if someone has the virus early on in their illness.
You take a PCR test as a nasal and throat swab and send it to an external laboratory for processing.
You should get a PCR test as soon as possible if you have any of these symptoms:
- A high temperature
- A new, continuous cough
- A loss or change to your sense of smell or taste.
You will normally get results within 24 hours.
Rapid LFT / Lateral Flow Tests
Antibody Testing – The presence of Antibodies indicates a past or current infection or that previous COVID vaccinations are working in your immune system. The antibody test is an LFT test that provides results in 15 minutes.
Antigen Testing – This tests for current COVID-19 infection (whether or not it is asymptomatic). The antigen test is an LFT test that provides results in 15 minutes.
It is recommended that private-sector employers offer their on-site workforce access to a minimum of 2 lateral flow tests every week. This helps identify staff with the virus who aren’t displaying symptoms, thus reducing the risk of transmission.
